We had plans to grab breakfast with Hannah, Ben & their friend, Craig, at 9am.
Ha! Funny joke. We all woke up at 10:30 and had brunch in the Panhandler's Cafe around the corner at 11.
We wanted to fit something else into our last Sydney afternoon so we decided to take a ferry to Manly beach. The ferry system was a little bit more confusing than the train but it may have just been the massive crowds down at the wharfs. The tickets were about $24 round trip for each of us and they packed us in like sardines but the ride only took half an hour. It was an awesome way to see the Opera House again and the rest of the harbour!
Manly because was beautiful, of course, and seemed to go on forever! We walked the length of the beach and back, saying hello to some water dragons along the way.
Unfortunately, with a 6:00 flight, we didn't get to spend much more time at Manly but I'm glad we at least made the trip out... Especially with such a beautiful ferry ride and a bag of sour cream & sweet chili chips!
We grabbed our bags from the apartment, sadly missed saying goodbye to Ben & Hannah and headed to the airport. Next stop, Melbourne!
We landed around around 7:30 and dropped our bags off at Discovery Melbourne (apparently one of the most popular and biggest hostels in the city). We have a private room (instead of a dorm room) but it's fun being around so many other travelers! There is complimentary breakfast each morning (toast and cereal), a rooftop with games, a cafe and even a bar/club downstairs. There is also a distinct smell upstairs that I don't really care for but all in all, it's a cool place! The room is pretty basic but for $60/night, you get your money's worth.
Ben & Hannah gave us some restaurant recommendations but we decided to just wander for a bit. We were told that the coolest restaurants and bars are just down small alleys and that whenever we see something that catches our eye, we should just go check it out. We didn't exactly know what they meant by that until we accidentally ended up in this alley:
Turns out that we made it to Hardware Street which is one of the places that Ben recommended to us!
We enjoyed some awesome Mexican food of all things... Even queso (which is rare over here)!
Talk about feeling right at home.
We made it back to the hostel pretty early for a hot shower and a great night's sleep! Our tour guide picks us up at 10:15 tomorrow morning to take us to the Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island. I have had anxiety over these tours I booked... Even with TripAdvisor and lots of research, sometimes you never know what you are going to get!
