Major accomplishment of the day: Surviving the high seas on the Bluebridge Ferry. We made it to the South Island despite a rocky ship, a common area that was too chilly to get comfortable, nauseous passengers (including myself) and people, no joke, falling out of their chairs with some of the bigger waves.
12 hours of sleep later and I think Tyler might be caught up from the long hours of driving... Heading to Mt. Cook this morning!
Scenery of the day:
The drive from Picton to Christchurch was unbelievable. Pictures don't do this road justice! We would have made more stops but we were in a hurry to pick up Jordan & Annie's campervan... We will be back in the area towards the end of our NZ journey! There were tons of seals on the rocky shores, surfers taking advantage of the beautiful day and very few houses/hotels/resorts in site.Highlight of the day:
Making it to Christchurch and wandering the Re-Start Mall. All of the vibrant cargo/shipping containers are being used for retail boutiques, coffee shops, food "trucks", banks and more! This downtown area is still in the re-building process but it was extremely impressive how unique and trendy the place is despite all of the destruction and construction.
Eatery of the day:
After aimlessly wandering the streets of downtown Christchurch, our grumbling stomachs led us to Zagato for some delicious wood-fired pizza!
We opted in for the Pork Ranger Pizza--- Braised pork, apple reduction, onions and mozzarella. It definitely hit the spot! Cute little place full of chandeliers, funky wallpaper and an extremely friendly/helpful staff.
